What a really cool and useful resource for Toolbox‘s first post of 2023! I’m hoping it sets a precedent for what we can expect the rest of the year.

PolitePost is a free AI resource that transforms a ranting, angry, nasty email message into something, well, polite. Or, as they also put it, “safe for work,” “courteous,” and “professional.”

For example, let’s say I just bought a product that is so poorly made, since I’ve already been having a bad, stressful day, it’s got me enraged. I dash off an angry ranting email:

Your product sucks! I want my damn money back, and now! What a complete waste of my time and money. You all should be ashamed of yourselves, producing something this crappy!

Well, that felt good, venting like that. But before I hit send, I decide to run it through PolitePost, which spits this out after a few seconds instead:

Dear Product Team,

I am writing to express my disappointment with the product I purchased. I would appreciate a refund for the product as I feel it has not lived up to my expectations. I would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]

Same message. But nicer. It’ll probably work better, too, and get me my money back. Thanks PolitePost!
