WordPress Themes for Writers
Thanks to my recent just scratched itch for a “new” WordPress theme for Wordpreneur, I’ve just waded and sifted through who knows how many free WordPress themes available online for the taking. “A lot” feels like an understatement — there really is an incredible amount of theme designs out there for WordPress, most of them free. That’s the good news. The bad news? There’s an incredible amount of theme designs out there for WordPress.
Finding that “perfect fit” design (or at least, close enough) can be terribly time consuming, even confusing as your attention gets pulled multiple directions by all that eye candy. Of course, after doing this a while, you tend to learn which designers (or design collections) you favor, which does help you zero in on what you’re looking for. But even then, finding the right theme takes quite a bit of patience and luck.
New Look and Feel for Wordpreneur
Upgraded the site to the latest and greatest WordPress version, and since I was fiddling around with the site already I figured, what the hey, time to change the site’s look-and-feel by tossing out the old theme design and sticking in this new one.
Just got tired of the previous theme’s severe “no-frills” design philosophy, I guess. That, and its extremely small typesize — it most certainly was not aging eyes-friendly.
How to Create eBooks for Kindle – Research
I’m just getting started converting a few PDFs (with the Word source files) to the Amazon Kindle ebook format. Translation: No idea what I’m doing just yet.
I did, however, find a few “tutorials” online that I’ll need to pore through, probably over the Thanksgiving break. Here they are in case you want to do the same. (Comment please if you know of any others I should check out.)
Free Software for Wordpreneurs Report
I figure I’ll start doing these reports periodically. I’m aiming to keep the software to totally free selections (not trials), but I anticipate occasionally mentioning products that’ll cost something to acquire if they’re cost-effectively that good. But that shouldn’t happen too often.

Free and Easy Custom Favicon Creator
A favicon (short for “favorites icon”), as you may know, is like a logo of sorts that’s visually associated with your website/blog. It’s tiny — at least 16×16 pixels — and it’s used by modern browsers, displaying it next to your site’s or page’s name on tabs and bookmarks. Thing is, they’re not the easiest things in the world to create.
How-to Design a Coming Soon Page
If you’re like me, you’ve got lots of little “website/blog projects” in various states of completion. Here, from Line25, are a few excellent tips on how to design truly useful (not to mention cool) “Coming Soon” pages for those projects.
eBook Cover Design: Cost-Saving Ideas
On an aside from yesterday’s post… what would I do if I couldn’t design my way out of a paper bag, anticipate that I’ll be needing a bunch of covers down the road, and don’t have (or don’t want to spend) the funds to pay a pro designer to do all those covers?
Teachpreneur: eBook Cover Design
Continuing on with my notes on getting Teachpreneur up and running…
As I mentioned at the end of my previous post, there’s a third product development software category ebook publishers will probably need to think about: graphics software. Tools like Adobe Photoshop. At this stage, for designing ebook covers.
Changes: Colophon and WordPress Theme
I’ve added a Colophon page. A colophone, as you may know, is traditionally a page or small section at the back of a book with book production notes and details (typography, designer, paper, printing method, etc., and more recently, software used, that sort of thing). So, I’ve decided to borrow the term for the Wordpreneur blog’s production notes.
