Writers’ Website Essentials – Don’t Forget to Include These!
Article by Kerry Finch
A powerful tool for both professional and amateur writers is utilizing the internet for self-promotion. Having an internet presence in the form of their own website, gives writers a fantastic opportunity to showcase their craft and promote their talents.
Many website owners struggle to keep the content on their websites fresh and interesting – they are more focused on making money and creating new products. Instead they enlist the help of freelance writers or ghostwriters to provide them with fresh, topical, quality content.
Breaking the Silence
It’s been a few weeks since my last post — holy cannoli, I just noticed it’s been over a month! — sorry about that.. I’m just not terribly good at multitasking. Besides juggling “day” work and watching over my baby boy (who, again, I just realized is now over 5 months old… that’s holy cannoli #2!), I’ve been working on “something else” that pretty much just sucked up what little focus I could spare for Wordpreneur and my other sites.
Well, here, boys and girls, is what it was…
Freelance Writing Isn’t the Only Way to Make Money Writing
Although I’ve trumpeted the benefits and joys of taking the freelance writing career route, I’ve also talked about many other ways writers (or writing types) can generate income… publishing online in particular. Maybe I’ve talked so much that you’ve gone deaf to my preaching. So, here, another one of your peers talking about trying a different route. — EES
Forget Freelance Writing Jobs, Build Financial Independence Writing for Yourself
Article by Lindsay Buroker
If you enjoy writing and you’re looking for a way to quit your day job or make money working from home, you’re probably looking into freelance writing. There are quite a few freelance writers out there in the blogosphere who will tell you all about how to get started finding jobs and how to manage your time and how to interface with clients and everything you can imagine related to the subject.
This article isn’t like that.
The Future of Magazines?
Have you heard of Mygazines.com? Up until recently, I didn’t know it existed, and the only reason I’m even aware of it is a slight publishing industry buzz about the site’s activities. The fact that it wasn’t previously on my radar probably tells you something about what I do online. rather, what I don’t do.

Google AdSense Success Stories
Just an additional FYI for those of you looking for stories and information on actual sites generating sizeable revenues from Google’s AdSense advertising program.
I didn’t even have to look too hard: The stories are provided by Google itself.
Blogging Income Plus
Are you sick yet of all the “how to make money blogging” articles out there that pretty much do nothing but regurgitate the same basic formula? In short:
- write good content
- run advertising (AdSense, affiliate stuff, direct)
- publish/sell your own infoproducts
As far as the basics go, that formula is solid, by the way, but that doesn’t mean I want to read it more than once, let alone three times a week.
Well, then, let’s see if we can come up with maybe three more to-do’s or ideas to add to the mix to help that blog of yours generate more bucks, shall we?

In this age of electronic publishing and commerce, I gotta tell you, computer programming skills can sure come in really handy. Especially if you’re more than just pretty darn good at it.
William Bontrager and I have known each other for who knows how many years now — we were partners on ProLinkz (a CGI Web application that we’re now giving away free), and we’ve worked together on a number of projects through the years. Funny thing is we’ve never met personally. That’s the Internet for you.
Sell Your Books Online Without a Blog or Website… for Free!
Ideally, you’ll want your own website/blog “working” for you and your book publishing promotions/sales. The expense isn’t a killer. Cheap, even (as I mentioned a number of times previously, I get my domains from GoDaddy and use Site5 budget Web hosting).
But, I got to thinking, what if you don’t really want to hassle with one?
Impressive AdSense Earnings
Addendum to Is There Really Money in Blogging? I decided to go digging around to see if anyone did indeed have a list of “Top AdSense Earners.” Not much luck; at least I found nothing current. But a whole bunch of posts did pop up dated 2006 to early 2007 covering some of the impressive results a few online publishers have reported.
Blog/Website Major Traffic Generation Simplified
There’s no shortage of articles and resources “out there” covering the relatively simple concept of generating traffic (and preferably, lots of it) to your blog and/or website. Maybe even way too much? Thing is, spend just a bit of time doing the research rounds online, and it won’t take very long at all for you to start getting the deja vus with each succeeding article you read, or even site you visit.
No wonder: There really isn’t very much in the way of focus area variety when it comes to the subject of generating major traffic to your blog or website. There are five. They are:
Is There Really Money in Blogging?
Uh, yeah, there is. The question is, “How much?”
Here’s a post on Income Diary you’ll want to check out:
Produce PDFs Free With FreePDF
I’ve long been a paid, registered Adobe Acrobat user — the PDF file format is the only way to do “universal” ebooks as far as I’m concerned — but unless it’s an illegal copy, “cheap software” is never used to describe it. Last I checked, for example, the Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Standard (the least expensive current version) full product is around $290 at bargain sources like TigerDirect!
Top 3 Ways to Quickly Make Money Writing
For what it’s worth, if asked and I had to guess on the three quickest ways to make money writing today (in other words, I’m too lazy to dig up or even make up actual data, and basing this purely on personal experience, observation, anecdotal evidence and good old gut feel), those three would be:
Google Ad Manager
FYI for those of you with websites/blogs… Google has a fairly new free service to help you manage your advertising inventory and sales: the Google Ad Manager.
e-Factory.com Articles You May Want to Check Out
Just an FYI post of a few articles on the e-Factory blog that you may find helpful and informative:
Blogging for a Living — “Blogging is a cheap and simple way to make money on the Internet. But, you have to know what you are doing or you’ll make very little money, or worse, you won’t make any money at all. If you’re like most people, you want to start making money and profits as soon as you can.” More »
Make Your Dormant Domains Pay Off With AdSense
I collect websites.
Actually, I don’t, but considering how practically inexpensive a dot-com domain name costs nowadays and budget website hosting being so gosh-darned cheap, it’s no wonder that whenever folks look at my “portfolio” of Web properties, they think that’s what I do: collect websites.
Nope. If there’s anything I could be accused of “collecting,” it’d be dot-com domains. When a good name comes to me and it’s available, off I go to GoDaddy and register it… even if I don’t need it now, or maybe ever.
IDEA: Advice Q&A Blog
I was going to write a totally new post on the idea of publishing your own Advice Q&A blog, then I remembered Wordpreneur ran a decent article on the topic (well, on advice columns) once upon a time. Here it is. Better than good enough for our purposes — just stick blog where you see column, and all will be right with the world. — EES
How Your Advice Column Can Build Loyal Readers
By Rix Quinn
Last year while researching a book on memorable speeches and essays, I stumbled across an ageless writing technique that continues to captivate readers.
Advice articles first appeared several hundred years ago. Some were submitted to papers and magazines anonymously. The question-and-answer format probably appeared a little bit later.
Blogging Profits for Editors – Adding Content the Easy Way
I was chatting with a pal who happens to be an editor (lots of those in the DC area) who was thinking of starting his own site providing information on vintage cars, his reason for living (outside of his wife, kids, and 9-to-5 of course).
I pointed him to The Editor’s Introductory Guide to Blogging Profits, an easy, cheap and potentially lucrative way to get him started and going, I thought. Strangely enough, it intimidated him. “Seems like hard work,” he said.
Multiple Feeder Blogs
You’ve got a main sales site, pushing your ebook, infoproduct, or whatever it is you’re selling. Maybe not even just a single product, but a number of related products/services (because, if they’re not related, what are you thinking?).
You no doubt want to drive traffic to your sales site. Lots of ways to do that, of course. Here’s one relatively free/low-cost strategy, however, that you may have overlooked:
