Here’s one of those periodic reviews (unedited and pretty much unproofed). — EES

Article by Fraser Munro

I have noticed while browsing through the articles over on my blog that most of them don’t appear to be very friendly towards new bloggers.

You often find that the more experienced you become in a subject that it actually gets more difficult to write helpful articles for people that are new to it.

Think Small

Article by Paulette Ensign

Is that really the title for this article? Pretty different from someone who is forever challenging people to think and act abundantly, largely, and beyond what they typically tend to do. So what about this title? Yes, tips booklets are small and usually easy to quickly complete. It’s easier and faster to write and get a tips booklet to market than a full length book.

Now back to the title of this article. Here’s what it’s about. It’s a suggestion that you make some small goal every day. This is far from a new theory. It is one worth revisiting, however.

How to Write a Non-Fiction Book

There’s obviously a heck of a lot more in the non-fiction category than what this writer implies. The advice is good though… but sometimes your objectives aren’t necessarily quite so mercenary. Too Many Ideas = Writer’s Block?

Now this is a problem I have, but not exactly in the same way Ms. Culleton describes. She’s talking about too many ideas within the same project… mine involves ideas for far too many different projects. Doesn’t matter since last I checked we’re all working within the same exact constraint of there only being 24 hours in a day, some of those spent unconscious. The way I essentially deal with it is what she describes here. — EES

Why Having Too Many Ideas is Yet Another Form of Writer’s Block, Even Though it Doesn’t Feel Like It
Article by Tracy Culleton

A writer wrote to me the other day looking for advice. Her problem, she told me, was that she had too many ideas. Whenever she was writing a story, her brain would be zinging more and more ideas at her.

You might be thinking: Huh! I’d LOVE to have such a problem.

Song Lyrics in Fiction – What Writers Need to Know

Nothing really to do about making money writing… just thought this information is interesting to know and have available for reference just in case. So you may want to bookmark this post. — EES

Article by Dora McAlpin

Authors sometimes find it really tempting to use song lyrics in a novel or story. The words of the song are just so powerful and so right that… well, they need to be there.

If you’re considering using song lyrics in your work of fiction, you may want to come up with a back-up plan. Here are some things you should know:

  • you or your publisher may be able to get rights to use the lyrics — or maybe not
  • it’s probably going to cost you (typically a small fee per copy you make, but that can add up)
  • your publisher may decide the lyrics aren’t worth the time/effort/money required to use them.

Want to Write a Novel the Easy Way?

My latest novel has been lounging on my computer for months. I have a thousand excuses for not finishing it: too busy with other endeavors, writer’s block, my lead character won’t budge, my cat needs food. Oh, yes, I have a ton of legitimate reasons for not finishing my third novel in my Amos Grant mystery series. I feel angry with myself. But then again, I don’t want my cat to starve. A dead cat in the house is bad for one’s muse.

Map Making for Fantasy Writers

This is not something one would usually find in a writer’s site, let alone a “how to make money writing” blog. But I thought it cool and interesting and a nice Sunday diversion from our usual fare — and an informative one at that. This historically hasn’t been a genre I’ve cared much for, but I’ve recently been thoroughly enjoying reading through the Eragon series (that’s Eragon and the two follow-up tomes, Eldest and Brisingr), a thoroughly enjoyable experience that no doubt is the reason why this article caught my eye in the first place. I don’t how this useful this info would be for you, but what the heck, here you go! — EES
