Establish a “Looking for Freelance Work” Routine
I can tell you from experience that not establishing a routine for continuously seeking freelance work and promoting your services and availability is probably the biggest mistake the newbie freelance writer can make.
Scrambling at the last minute, trying to line up more work when your well just dried up is, quite frankly, silly. And yet there’s no shortage of folks I know who do just that (the very same people, by the way, who’re the most vocal about the market being ”tough”). If that’s your MO or strategy, I sure do hope you’ve learned how to make do with less.
Where to Find Freelance Web Writing Jobs for Free
Writing for the Web is probably the best opportunity out there for the freelance writer with limited to no experience. The demand is strong, growing even.
So, where do you go to find available freelance Web writing jobs and assignments… and for free?
Two that consistently deliver a regular flow of these freelance Web writing opps come to mind.
Win This Copy of A Guide to Successful Self-Publishing
The book to be given away next is a copy of A Guide to Successful Self-Publishing by Stephen Wagner. From the cover:
Whether you want to publish how-to manuals, newsletters, reports, recipe collections, directories, personalized children’s books, or any other type of written material, here’s your complete guide to doing it at the lowest cost and at a handsome profit.
Same rules. In short, just leave a contextually substantial-enough comment on any Wordpreneur blog post (really, doesn’t take much), and you’re entered. More comments, more entries!
The winner will be randomly selected from among all comments made between now and Friday, May 23, 2008. The winner (and another book to given away) will be announced then.
Good luck!

Georjina’s “winning entry” was selected randomly, using the process described in this post.
Thanks to everyone who participated. In a little bit, I’ll be announcing the next book to be given away.
No Freelancing? What the…?
I periodically take stock of what we’ve got here on Wordpreneur, and I just realized something: We don’t have a Freelancing category. Huh? Strange. There’s obviously no shortage of that kind of content here. Don’t ask me what I was thinking.
More Thoughts on Being “Editable”
Here’s an excellent comment by Deb Gallardo, the kind that stimulates a bit more thought, on one aspect of my Test Project? What They’re Looking For… post, the part that mentions the need for pro freelance writers to be editable/able to work with editors.
Now looking at it from a writer’s POV (instead of an editor’s), I have to admit that I really do not like anyone messing with anything I write. Hate it, in fact.
Update on Book Contests Coming Up
With all the baby excitement around here in the last few weeks, I dropped the ball on the weekly book giveaways I’ve been running. Sorry about that.
Will be getting it all back on track today (picking winners, shipping books, announcing new giveaways, etc.). Stay tuned.

Working at Home: Good idea?
It’s been quiet around here. And no, it wasn’t that I was away or too busy with my “day” work… something even bigger took place. My wife and I just had our first kid earlier this month: Daniel Domenico Sarte. All 8.5lbs and 19.25″ inches of him. That’s my little boy there on the right.
And you betcha I’m a proud papa!
