Comic Book Reviewer Wanted
I just stumbled over this as I was clicking around,
Fear Zone, a horror movie blog, is looking for a comic book reviewer.
What Should I Read Next?
Interesting site, and a very good idea. I get mixed results however, something that should no doubt improve with more users and participation (getting to that point, obviously, is the hard part once the tech’s in place).
Use Good Scotch Tape When Wrapping Gifts
I’m not too bad at this wrapping gifts thing (and I’m self taught too!). Not that I’m particularly proud of this skill, but I did obviously just get reminded of it yet again (pat on back).
Writer’s Block? Reply to Emails
A few observations:
“Writer’s Block” usually only happens at the very start of the writing process. Getting past it is the goal. That’s when the words start to flow.
Freezing up at the start is not uncommon. See it all the time, regardless of the complexity or simplicity of the writing task at hand. Even needing to write a relatively quick and short blog post can bring this on.
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everybody! Party hard but party safe!
I’m taking a little bit of time off. See you in a couple!
Wordpreneur Carnival #011
No intro fluff this time… let’s go straight to a post that pretty much entirely embodies one of the major reasons most of you come here to Wordpreneur: In Blogging Spells Money, Peter (Success With This blog) shares some excellent yet simple suggestions to help turn your blog into something special that may very well become a real income generator for you.
Just for Fun — Friday Night the Weekend Before X’mas 2007
It’s Friday night, the beginning of the very last weekend before Christmas this year… and I’m in no mood to work (or even write about it).
So, here’re a few interesting, possibly amusing, maybe even “writing provocative” diversions. Enjoy!
Kurt Vonnegut’s 8 Rules for Writing Fiction
Like yesterday’s link to Stephen King’s top writing tips? For fiction, I like the following way better:
Stephen King’s Top 7 Tips for Becoming a Better Writer
Extraordinarily busy day, and have been zooming around. Sorry I don’t have the minutes to pump out much of a post today, but managed to free up a few at least to pull this together. It was easy… I just stole it from this Saturday’s coming Carnival.
News to Use 12.19.2007
New Magazine Launches Decline in 2007 [Folio]
Despite differences in new magazine launch counts among observers, they agree there were fewer new magazine launches this year than last.
FreeRice
Thanks to TeachMarket for bringing this to my attention.
Talk about a wonderful site! FreeRice’s mission is simple: to donate rice to the needy through the UN to help rid the world of hunger.
And it helps us improve our English vocabulary while it’s doing that. And for free.
Thoughts on Investing in Your Own Writer’s Website
Maybe it’s just me, but this time of the year I spend more energy than usual thinking of money, finances, numbers, business, blah blah blah. Watch it creep into all my posts.
Take this one on writer’s websites, in response to the usual newbie question (let’s pretend that’s you) on whether one should invest in a website or not.
No brainer? Well, since the assumption is that you’re a writing industry newb, you won’t have any clips yet. So, should you spend money on a website/Web hosting?
Plaintiff Magazine Wants Submissions
Plaintiff is a new monthly magazine for Northern California plaintiff’s attorneys. Legal knowledge is helpful, but not absolutely necessary for some content (profiles, interviews, and general articles of interest to its readers, such as time management, stress reduction, tech, reviews, etc.).
Bloggers on Creative Design Wanted
The COLOURlovers Color + Design Blog is looking for bloggers for regular color-centric posts on recent design trends, the fashion scene, new products, etc.
Wordpreneur Carnival #010
Have you finished your Christmas shopping yet? Or mailing out your cards? I haven’t, and this is the last good weekend to do that. Next weekend is for bringing out the popcorn and sitting back to watch, laugh and point at the nimrods who waited too long.
The shopping part I easily handle through the gang at Amazon — I just let them deal with the logistics and hassle of getting the gifts into the recipients’ hands (and for those gifts I deliver myself, it’s the last weekend to take advantage of free Super Saver shipping). The greeting cards are a different story… getting those done and out is still roll up your sleeves work. Oh well.
Can I Recommend a For-Pay Freelance Jobs Site?
A reader who wants to get started on a freelance writing career asked if I can recommend any for-pay “job boards” for freelancers.
This is normally a tricky question to answer, since in a lot of instances, the person you ask will base his/her response on whether s/he got a job through the service or not.
Bloggers for Business and Technology Publisher
A pal forwarded this to me from a recruiting company.
One of its clients, a b2b publishing company, is looking for bloggers to work on a freelance/contract basis to contribute to a variety of blogs covering various industries. People from all industries are encouraged to apply.
Part-Time PR Freelance Writer Wanted
Springbox, an interactive marketing services agency, has a remote opportunity: Its NY office is looking for a part-time PR freelance writer with Technology and Rich Media online writing experience.
Sharing: 5 Ideas
I had some trouble with this post’s title. “Giving Back” doesn’t give me the warm fuzzies (I ask: “To whom?” and “What’d they ever give me?”). And “Spreading the Wealth” doesn’t seem to fit since I can guarantee “wealthy” isn’t the first word that comes to mind when trying to describe me.
But what I am is simply a bit more fortunate than many who, well, aren’t. So whenever I’m in a batch giving mood, I try to share a bit with them too… why the heck not?
Food and Travel Bloggers Wanted
A new restaurant and travel blog is looking for freelance writers to review restaurants, hotels, resorts, wineries, golf courses, etc., and is paying $25-$100 per.
